Introducing The Specter Stabilizer

The Specter Stabilizer - Light Weight, Compact, Handheld Camera Stabilizer
We gave you a sneak preview a few days ago, now it's time to introduce our new stabilizer, the Specter.  Weighing in only 1 1/2oz heaver than our previous model the MiniDV Stabilizer, it packs a punch of new features.

  1. Extendable from 13 1/2in to 23in tall
  2. Movable gimbal allows vertical balance to be adjusted in multiple ways.
  3. Inertial dampers reduce unwanted rotation.
  4. High precision ceramic main bearing and Teflon sealed side bearings offer optimal performance by reducing bearing friction.
  5. Up to 12 different ways it can be set up to suit your filming style.
  6. Supports cameras from 0-5.5pounds.  That's not a typo, the movable gimbal allows the vertical balance to actually go all the way down to zero.  So all those Flip, Kodak and other micro cameras are supported.  It should also be noted that the 5.5pound max is the maximum camera setup the stabilizer will support with the weights included, but not necessarily your arm because it does get heavy.
  7. Extended inverted flight support by removing the gimbal and flipping it upside down.
  8. Includes a SLIK DQ-20 quick release mount.
  9. Hard shell case is included standard.
  10. Ultra durable high gloss black powder coat paint.

Nifty Fifty Battle - Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 II vs Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 STM Lenses

  Canon lovers have long enjoyed the 50mm lens, so much so that they nicknamed it the Nifty Fifty. Over the years Canon has come out with a few variations of it.  We're going to compare two of those, the Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 II , and the Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 STM . Both lenses are of course 50mm, have an aperture of 1:1.8, and lack image stabilization, so we're going to focus more on the differences between the two in this blog post. DIY Camera Stabilizer Build - The Stabilizer Base Plate

You're probably asking yourself why we chose to start off our DIY stabilizer build series with a part that seems so simple.  Just strap on a plate with some weights and move on right?  This is a part that regularly gets neglected, both in DIY rigs and Commercial stabilizers as well.  The base plate actually serves several key functions, so in the quest for a more stable rig spending some time on the design of your base plate is well worth it.
